11 Fifth Avenue – Green Roof
Green roofs help buildings maintain appropriate temperatures and cut down on energy costs. The NYC Department of Buildings announced new laws requiring buildings undergoing major roof renovations to install a green roof system to absorb rainwater, provide insulation, and combat the heat island effect. Green roofs can add substantial weight to a building’s structure. Therefore, a Professional Engineer is required to perform structural analysis of the roof and to make modifications accordingly.
